Mimar Sinan’s iconic Ottoman architecture brought this 500-year old bath designed for Hurrem Sultan – wife of Suleiman the Magnificent – to life over 500 years ago. Renovated and revitalized again in 2024, its enchanting atmosphere will take you back in time.

Once inside, prepare to leave your clothes behind and relax on a central marble platform known as gobek tasi. Experienced male or female therapists will then provide traditional kese (scrubbing) and massage therapies.

The Hammam Experience

Turkish baths have long been considered one of the premier beauty treatments, helping to soothe both body and mind. While traditionally men and women would separate in separate hammams, nowadays most bath houses allow gender mixing while keeping sauna and steam rooms separate for hygiene reasons.

Once inside a hammam, you’ll be guided into its changing rooms and instructed to disrobe down to your undergarment (although some bathhouses provide small towels to protect modesty). After undressing completely, enjoy an experience! Expect cleansing rituals in different rooms such as the hot sauna, scrubbing room and washroom – exactly which will depend on which bathhouse you visit; plus you can customize your hammam experience depending on how much money you want to spend!

At a hammam, the scrubbing room is at the heart of every experience, where you will be vigorously scrubbed down with a rough mitt called a kese to exfoliate dead skin and impurities while leaving skin feeling silky smooth. There may also be dressing areas to store clothes before entering the hot room itself and you will typically be provided with a robe and slippers (though you may bring your own).

As soon as you arrive, your therapist will apply a soapy lather all over your body while you relax in warmth. Next comes scrubbing with an exfoliating glove or cloth called a kese, where assistant scrub away dead skin until pieces come off in small pieces – truly relaxing experience that leaves you feeling lighter and more energized than before!

Once you are ready, your therapist will start with an amazing bubble wash before giving a relaxing massage that feels tailor-made for restorative bliss.
